- 2008 Whitetail Deer Hunt
To Wild Kakwa Outfitter's,
I would like to thank you both for the great time I had last
week at your Deer Camp in the Grande Prairie Region of Alberta.
It was truly a trip of a life time.
Let me start out by saying, there is more to a hunting trip than
Harvesting Game, it was truly an Adventure to remember. From Rick's
constant scouting from the time he leaves you to the time he picks
you up, ( the man really works hard for you, and wants you to
fill your tag ) to Rita's awesome cooking, ( she makes you feel
right at home, Thanks Mom, lol ) and to my new hunting friends
( see you next year Neal ). Even tho I didn't harvest a deer,
( do to my choice and mistakes ) the opportunity to harvest a
Great Alberta Buck in the 180 class was all around me.
On the first day of my hunt, we arrived in an area where Rick
had been scouting out and seeing lots of signs of big bucks. After
checking the wind direction, to see if we could get into this
area, Rick had me placed in a blind on a pipe line. A short time
later the adventure had begun, a nice 10 pointer had come out
just 50 yards from me, about 130 to 140 class, 3 ½ year
old buck. Being the first day of my hunt, I past on this buck
and glad I did. At the end of day 1, about 4:45 PM, back in the
truck, Rick spotted a deer. At over 400 yards away, it took my
breath away, the body size was incredible, after glassing him
this is the buck I wanted. A true Alberta Big Buck, in the 180
plus class with drop tines heading to the blind I just got out
of.
I hunted this buck for 5 days. and seen him 3 times, and he never
gave me the opportunely to harvest him. This is hunting, this
is the "Adventure" I was looking for.
