Mark Thompson, 2006 Elk Hunt
In September of 2006 I had the opportunity
to hunt elk with Wild Kakwa Outfitters. This was my first elk
hunt. We saw a few elk in the first day of our hunt and heard
a few more. The weather tuurned nasty with rain, sleet and snow
for the next 6 days of our hunt. Elk activity slowed to nothing.
We kept seeing sign and heard an occasional bull bugle, but no
opportunities presented themselves. We were kept enteretained
by seeing tons of whitetail deer, mulies, several moose, and a
B&C black bear. Monster size bear and wolf tracks kept us
on our toes at all times.
On the last day of our hunt, the weather broke and we found ourselves
in the middle of a dozen rut crazed bulls, all well withing 100
yards. The bugles were coming from every direction. After 20 minutes
of nerve racking exctiement, my "Unique Trophy" stepped
into view and I harvested my first elk at 50 yards. The entire
group of hunters and guides from campe helped us pack the animal
out.
The lodging was very nice for being this far out in the wolderness,
the food was excellent, coffee was always hot and we always had
tons of soda, cookeis and cake. Rick, Rita and the rest of the
family and guide service bent over backwards to make sure I had
a great time. This is one OUTSTANDING outfitter, that I would
highly recommend to anyone looking for a Canadian adventure. I
cannot wait for a return trip.
